13 July 2003:
Tonight we made a long journey from Kongsjorden past Prins Karls Forland south till we got to Daumannsoyra. When we woke I noticed immediately that the boat was rocking up and down. When I went on deck I saw that the sea was almost completely calm. The waves were beneath the surface! Before making our way into the zodiac we enjoyed yet another delicious breakfast.
Daumannsoyra (beach of the landing)
Our guide told us that it would be a rough landing because of the waves. The coast consisted mainly of rocks with small beaches in between. After a lot of maneuvering,
our guide chose a small sand beach for our landing attempt which was not very smooth at all. A couple of people had to jump out of the zodiac to be sure that it wouldn't be thrown onto the beach. We all finally made it to dry land (with or without wet feet).

Daumannsoyra
The landscape looked similar to the landscape around Longyearbyen. Daumannsoyra lies on the tip of Isfjorden. The rifles were loaded again and we were ready for fieldwork. It's kind of strange that you get so quickly used to walking around with such a heavy rifle. We didn't see any thing special on this day but the Arctic Skua's and the Fulmars are always beautiful to watch. We also saw a lot of nice arctic flowers like the Saxifraga cespitosa that you can see in the picture.
